Cleanup at Phillips St Playground with Fitchburg Rotary Day of Service

Join Keep Fitchburg Beautiful volunteers for a neighborhood and park cleanup in West Fitchburg at Phillips St park on Saturday May 20th, 2023. We'll be starting at 8am and will plan on working til 12pm.

KFB will be joining Fitchburg Rotary where they will be performing a day of service at the playground, cleaning up and renovating the sandbox.

This neighborhood park at the corner of Westminster Hill Road and Phillips Street in west Fitchburg has a play structure with swings and basketball court, and a Sandbox that Fitchburg Rotary Club will be renovating.

Saturday April 29th from 8am-12pm is a Ward 1 & 6 focus.

Meet/Park at the parking lot at 44 Wanoosnoc Rd, Fitchburg, near the State Pool.

All are welcome to join and help.

Dumpsters will be available at each location for bulk items and non-residential trash found throughout the ward.

DPW staff will be available to aide in picking up large items that volunteers are unable to bring to the transfer sites, as well as curbside trash bags from large neighborhood clean ups.

City personnel will be available at each transfer site to assist with the disposal.

DPW Street Sweepers will also be out in the wards during each ward cleanup.
Please sweep sidewalk debris onto the street, however, kindly refrain from creating piles!

Lite refreshments will be provided for breakfast and lunch at the transfer site.

The Health Department will supply yellow trash bags, gloves and masks at each event.

It will be an outdoor event held on the lot located on the corner of Main St/Putnam St. (Old Johnsonia lot) in downtown Fitchburg.

Keep Fitchburg Beautiful Volunteers will be joining the Fitchburg Dog Park Volunteers cleaning up litter in the area around Coolidge Park on Sunday April 16th, 2023 from 9am-12pm.

Meet in front of the Fitchburg Dog Park for litter bags, grabbers, gloves etc.

We'd like to clean up around the walking trail, play courts, and wherever the litter exists!

DOG PARK:
We will also be cleaning up the dog park, raking leaves, cleaning litter, sweeping etc.

The dog park is off the entrance of Coolidge Park off Townsend St, 198 Townsend St.

The focus here will be the walking trails all inside Coolidge Park, The dog park, the parking lot areas, lower Townsend St, Pearl St, John Fitch Highway, and Pearl HIll Rd.

Let's meet to cleanup the Rock Walk Trail up Rollstone Hill before the Spring/Summer Rock Walks!

We'll meet on Saturday April 8th, 2023

---> 8:00am meet at the Upper Common where we will cleanup the route from the Boulder to Shattuck St;

Route: Start at Boulder Art Gallery 8am, walk up Main St towards Rollstone St, Right onto Rollstone St and continue left across Kimball st up right to Rollstone St to the Shattuck St trailhead where we will hike the trail and clean along the way.

We'll have plenty of bags and will have some gloves/trash grabbers available to borrow.

Peter Capodagli organizer of the Rock Walk will be joining us.
The renowned Spring 2023 Rock walk & historical guided tour will be Sat May 20th at 10am start at the Boulder Art Gallery. It is free and open to all.

Gus Johnson Baseball Field Cleanup & Revitalization

Saturday April 23rd - 12pm-4pm - Cleanup & Revitalization of South Fitchburg playground / Gus Johnson Baseball Field, located at Abbott Ave and Water St Fitchburg

  • Community Leadership Institute of the North Central Chambers of Commerce and The Cal Ripken Jr baseball league and teaming up for the revitalization of the South Fitchburg playground/ Gus Johnson Field on Saturday April 23rd at 12 PM.

  • The fields are beautiful fields that I remember playing at as a child and would love to help bring them back for future generations of kids. I appreciate any help with this endeavor. Thank you for taking the time to look at these emails.

  • Below outlines a list of items that would improve the cosmetics and safety of these fields / Park. 

           1. General ground maintenance

    1. Fill in and leveling the holes in the outfield

    2. Clearing the remaining brush on the backside hill (Opening up the view of the field from the parking lot)

    3. Clearing and cleaning the front stairs/entrance facing Old Leominster Rd.

    4. Fix or replace flower boxes surrounding the trees next to the Concession stand

    5. Clear the debris and pick up the trash from the nature trail that runs parallel to the field

    6. Erect a sign stating the name of the fields / Welcome to Fitchburg Youth Baseball

    1. General maintenance and safeguarding of the dugouts

    1. Cover or safeguarding nails sticking through the bottom of the roof of the dugouts

    2. Making the dugouts lockable (Keeping the general public/undesirables from sleeping or hanging out inside)

    1. Concession Stand: Paint the concession stand Fitchburg red (possibly a mural on one wall if an artist is present and interested

    2. Flagpole: Erect/Install donated flagpole

    3. Baseball field fence: Replace outdated and cracked fence top covers

From FYBA Baseball League: Here’s a list of items that would benefit the field clean up:

  • 10 gallons Fitchburg red paint (if that can’t get that donated I will personally buy)

  • red mulch to spruce up variety of areas

  • A friend could take care of the exposed nails in the dugouts if he had these items

  • 10 sheets of luan

  • 10 tubes liquid nails caulking

  • 10 tubes of silicone caulking

  • bags of cement to erect flag pole that was donated

  • if anyone wanted to donate a gift certificate or some type of gift basket I was thinking it might be a nice to raffle it off to the volunteers. Just an idea.

Saturday April 23rd 8am-12pm: Ward 1&6 City Sponsored Cleanup, Former FLLAC School at 44 Wanoosnoc Rd, Fitchburg, MA 01420

  • Salvation Army Canteen Truck on site – Light Breakfast & Lunch

  • Street Sweepers out – sweep sand onto street for pickup – not in large piles.

TVs and Monitors accepted for only a $10 fee!

Keep Fitchburg Beautiful Volunteers will be supporting the city during it's officially sponsored Ward Cleanup days.
Saturday April 23rd, 2022 from 8am-12pm is a Ward 1 & 6 focus.

Meet/Park at the parking lot at 44 Wanoosnoc Rd, Fitchburg, near the State Pool.

All are welcome to join and help.

Dumpsters will be available at each location for bulk items and non-residential trash found throughout the ward.

DPW staff will be available to aide in picking up large items that volunteers are unable to bring to the transfer sites, as well as curbside trash bags from large neighborhood clean ups.

City personnel will be available at each transfer site to assist with the disposal.

DPW Street Sweepers will also be out in the wards during each ward cleanup.
Please sweep sidewalk debris onto the street, however, kindly refrain from creating piles!

Lite refreshments will be provided for breakfast and lunch at the transfer site.

The Health Department will supply yellow trash bags, gloves and masks at each event.

Rock Walk Trail Cleanup & Hike up Rollstone Hill 5/15

Let's meet to cleanup Rollstone Hill before the Spring/Summer Rock Walks! We'll meet on Saturday May 15, 2021 (Sunday May 16th raindate)

---> 9:00am meet at the Upper Common where we will cleanup the route from the Boulder to Bruce St;
Route: Start at Boulder, walk up Main St, Right onto Rollstone St and continue across Kimball st up Rollstone St to the Bruce St trailhead where we will hike the trail and clean along the way.

We'll have plenty of bags and will have some gloves/trash grabbers available to borrow.

Coolidge Park - Fitchburg Dog Park Cleanup

Keep Fitchburg Beautiful Volunteers will be cleaning up litter in the area around Coolidge Park on Sunday Morning April 18th from 9am-12pm approx.

We will also be cleaning up the dog park, raking leaves cleaning litter, sweeping etc.

Meet/Park at the dog park entrance of Coolidge Park off Townsend St, 198 Townsend St.

The focus here will be the walking trails all inside Coolidge Park, The dog park, the parking lot areas, lower Townsend St, Pearl St, John Fitch Highway, and Pearl HIll Rd.

All are welcome to join and help; many hands make light work ~ wear masks and try to limit distance to 6ft.

We will have bags and gloves to give away and grabbers for borrowing.
